Safeguarding Children and Adults at Risk - the basics

This course is aimed at staff working at all levels in educational settings, and introduces the main concepts of Safeguarding Children, Young Adults and Adults.

Content includes...Background to the current legislation - The five themes of Every Child Matters - What are inpectors looking for? - Safeguarding Adults - Types of abuse  -  How to recognise abuse - the Disclosure conversation -  Case studies - What to do in abuse situations

Introduction to Learning Difficulties and Disability Course  - a guide for mainstream staff.....A one-day course to enable mainstream lecturers and support staff to develop their understanding of this area , and improve their working practices in the classroom.

Content includes...Definitions of “Learning Difficulties" and "Disability"  -  Models of disability  -  Causes of Learning Difficulties  -  Choice making  -  General and unique differences  -  Practical ways of working with people with learning difficulties and disabilities in class

Disability Awareness Course.....A one day course to enable delegates to increase their awareness of disability, and improve their understanding and working practices when working with people with disabilities.

Content includes...Definitions of disability  -  A brief history of disability in the UK  -  Models of disability  -  Disability in the workplace  - A look at the main types of disability - The Disability Disacrimination Act  -  Challenging discrimination

Epilepsy awareness Course.....A one-day course to enable participants to develop their understanding of Epilepsy, and how it affects peoples’ lives.

Content includes...What is Epilepsy? - The history of epilepsy - Causes of epilepsy  -  Possible triggers - Types of epilepsy  - Record keeping - What to do if someone has a seizure

Understanding Boundaries and Good Practice Course.....A one-day course aimed at lecturing and support staff working in Supported Learning, and their managers. The programme is about developing an understanding of Boundaries & Good Practice, using these concepts on a daily basis in the workplace, and building confidence in approaching difficult issues.

Content includes...What do we mean when we use the terms ‘Boundaries’? and ‘Good Practice’?  -  Who sets the standards? - Basic values  Confidentiality - What constitutes good practice? and bad practice?  -  Case studies  -  What makes for firm and fair boundaries?

For all courses, a full set of notes and handouts is provided to every participant.
